Frequently Asked Questions

Climbing Mount Meru is the best way to acclimatize for Kilimanjaro. At 4,566m, it allows your body to adapt to high altitude in a less extreme environment, which significantly increases your chances of successfully summiting Kilimanjaro. It's also a beautiful and rewarding trek in its own right.

The 4-day trek is highly recommended. It breaks up the descent into two days, allowing you to rest at Miriakamba Hut after the summit instead of descending all the way to the gate. This makes the experience much more enjoyable and less strenuous. The 3-day option is a very tough, fast-paced challenge.

Yes! The lower slopes of Mount Meru are within Arusha National Park, which is rich in wildlife. It is very common to see giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and various bird species. For safety, an armed park ranger will accompany all trekking groups.

Unlike most Kilimanjaro routes, you will sleep in comfortable, dormitory-style mountain huts (Miriakamba and Saddle Huts). The huts have bunk beds with mattresses, communal dining areas, and basic toilet facilities. You will still need to bring your own sleeping bag.
