Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp

Distance: 11 km / 7 miles
Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The ultimate challenge begins! After registration, you'll dive straight into the heart of the jungle on a steep, demanding trail. This is a true wilderness experience, with the sounds of the rainforest as your soundtrack. The path follows a ridge between two rivers, leading you to the secluded Umbwe Cave Camp for a well-earned rest.

Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp

Distance: 6 km / 4 miles
Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The ascent continues relentlessly as you emerge from the forest into the heath and moorland zone. The vegetation thins, revealing breathtaking views of the valley below and the ice-capped peak above. Your hard work is rewarded as you reach the famous Barranco Camp, set beneath the imposing and beautiful Barranco Wall.

Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (Acclimatization)

Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Your day starts with an exhilarating scramble up the famous Barranco Wall. It's a non-technical but thrilling climb that rewards you with incredible views from the top. The trail then undulates across ridges and valleys, offering spectacular vistas of Kibo's southern glaciers. You'll arrive at Karanga Camp for an important afternoon of rest and acclimatization, which significantly improves your summit chances.

Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Distance: 4 km / 2 miles
Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Leaving Karanga, you'll trek through the alpine desert, with the summit now appearing tantalizingly close. The trail connects with the Mweka descent route before turning towards Barafu Camp. "Barafu" means "ice" in Swahili, and this stark, rocky campsite lives up to its name. You'll arrive early, have dinner, and get to bed for a few hours of rest before the most challenging and rewarding part of your journey begins.

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Distance: 17 km / 10 miles
Time: 11-14 hours
Habitat: Arctic
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

The summit awaits! Waking around midnight, you'll begin the final ascent under a blanket of stars. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. Step by step, you'll climb the steep scree slopes, reaching the crater rim at Stella Point (5,756m) just as the sun begins to rise, casting a golden glow over the African plains. From there, it's a final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) - the Roof of Africa! After celebrating your incredible achievement, you'll descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
